Privacy Policy

Hi! This isn't a commercial website. It's my personal blog/newsletter, and you can reach me at any time at eris@erisravenwood.com or in SL (as Eris Ravenwood, duh).

I host this site via Ghost.org's Ghost(Pro) managed service. I care about privacy very much and am very against unnecessary cookies and tracking. That's part of why I use Ghost. With that in mind, I avoid using excessive third-party integrations that'll collect your data, just the bare minimum to run this site and collect non-invasive analytics.

That said, running a website and newsletter, I do need to collect some data.

Data Collected

By visiting this site, your IP is theoretically logged on the server(s), but I have no access to it. It is used to derive the Country you're visiting from, which is the only data I see when you visit as a non-logged-in user.

If you sign up for an account/the newsletter, here's the additional data I collect:

  • The name you give me
  • Your email address
  • The Country or US State you signed up from

This is so I can email you the newsletter. You'll also get a brief welcome email from me to confirm you signed up.

If you want to unsubscribe, you can do so from the footer of any email I send you, or adjust your email preferences here. This won't delete your data, just unsubscribe you from emails.

If you want me to delete your account and associated data entirely, email me and I'll do so.

Analytics

Ghost(Pro) uses Tinybird for analytics. This allows me to see how many visitors I get, which links on the site you click, where you came to my site from (referrer), the country you visited from, without using any cookies.

From the email side of things, I can see if you opened the email via a 1 pixel image. If you block images in your email client, I won't see this. Ghost also offers a feature to let me see which links you click in an email, but I disabled that because it feels creepy to me.

Cookies

If you sign up for an account, I use a cookie to keep you signed in. I don't use any third-party cookies.

Third Party Services

I won't share your data with third parties beyond the ones listed below, needed to run the site. I won't sell your data either.

  • This website is hosted by Ghost(Pro).
  • Tinybird is used for non-invasive analytics, as described above.
  • Gravatar is used for user avatar pics, for your account and any comments you leave. A hash of your email is therefore shared with Gravatar for this purpose.
  • Newsletter emails are sent via Mailgun. So by extension, they also get your email address (and the contents of emails I send).

Embedded Content

If I embed stuff from another site, like a YouTube video, that's covered by the other site's policy. So if I embed from YouTube, they might collect their own data subject to their privacy policy. With that in mind, I avoid embedding content, and instead link to content.
