A Beautiful Day at the Pyri Funfair

The Tunnel of Love at the Pyri Funfair

So, if you've read my previous posts, you'll know that I only joined Second Life® in June 2024. So I missed a lot of SL's history. This grid has been around for a loooong time so sometimes I like to explore cool builds from long ago. When Lili, Fen, and I found ourselves in Bellisseria and I realized we were kinda close to the Pyri Funfair (which had been on my list to check out for a WHILE), I couldn't help myself but drive us chaotically along the ocean floor and surprise my friends with a visit.

Once we finally drove 90 degrees up the mountains (traction control ftw), we first decided to ride the tunnel of love. We got our tickets, and hopped on the ride. Look how cute Lili and I are!!

BIG SPOILER WARNINGS if you scroll past this image. If you want to go visit for yourself and ride the tunnel of love, go do that, then come back to this post later.

Kindly ignore my hand sticking into my leg, listen, I didn't have time for a good pose.

Still with me?

Last chance to bail and visit for yourself!

Alrighty, I'll continue!

Sadly, something went HORRIBLY wrong with the tunnel of love ride, and we fell into a pit and cave system.

Fen, Lili, and I in a cave.

I'll be real, I didn't know what to expect visiting here. I got told to visit by Erik back during SLB when I saw the cave system's topology on his map. It looked like a giant pit. I also had a landmark from a previous dam exploration, but when we got here, I realized I'd never been.

So when we fell into the caves and started looking for clues, I was very happy.

By reading clues, we found out, that this cave system houses the Prim of Life! And lots of old freebies from around 2010! We haaad to explore! But sadly, Fen got pulled away by a sudden phonecall, so Lili and I had to explore without them.

Me with my mighty sword, after having avoided a tentacle monster (uwu)

We explored hella caves! Fraught with peril!

Shyoo-Roth!

Met strange creatures! This one gave us a gift!

We even found the Pit of Lost Inventory! This is where everything goes where it gets lost. Lots of tentacles here. :3

NUUUUUUUUUUUUU LILI FELL VICTIM TO THE TENTACLESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS (she got better)

We both fell, many many times on our quest. To spiders, to worms, to tentacles, to electric eels. Our journey even took us deep underwater.

But eventually, we made it!

The prim of life!

We finally found the prim of life! And we got a (system) t-shirt!

There's definitely a lot we missed on our quest. There was a treasure room we definitely passed by. Plenty of freebies we missed as well. Honestly, idk what I'm gonna do with all this stuff. Prolly stuff it in a folder and it'll go back to the pit of lost inventory.

If you wanna go check it out for yourself, here's the destination guide link, and here's my recommended starting point again. It's worth a visit, and I hope I didn't spoil too much!

A bit of history and credits (from what I can gather)

Based on checking object creation dates, it seems like this place was built around 2010. Everything is prims, which makes sense since Mesh didn't go grid-wide until 2011.

The whole island and cave system is, of course, Mole built. Classic Moles, building underground cave systems. There's several references to Mole Mart, of course, lots of LDPW freebies, etc.

The main builder seems to be Naughty Mole, with help from Silent Mole (Various decor), Garden Mole (a lot of the mesh surface land), Earthy Mole (trees outside), Dark Mole (Fair stuff), Opti Mole (more fair stuff, also great name), Bloomin Mole (more trees), and Abnor Mole (some newer stuff like the stamp terminal and sound effects in the caves). I believe that's everyone who had a hand in building the place, obviously some objects were made by other folks from the library and whatnot, but yeah.

The Box Office

Also on mainland, in the Pyri region, is the Pyri Funfair box office.

This place seems to have been built in October 2010, also by Naughty Mole. It provides a landmark to a dock, leading to the ferry to the island, built by Dark Mole with a ghost assist from Misty Mole, and crate assist from Sylvan Mole.

I suppose this is a more elegant way of getting there than driving underwater from Bellisseria. Oh well, Gobbos gonna Gob.

If I got anything wrong above, or if you have further info on when this opened and more of its backstory, let me know and I'll update. Where should I visit next?
